Turn photos and scanned pages into usable text
A photo of a printed page, a screenshot, a scanned form: none of it is text an AI tool can read on its own. Reading it out automatically takes real computing work, which is why this one is a premium feature rather than part of the free site.
Available on a dedicated instance
Photo and scanned-page text recognition takes real computing power behind the scenes, so it is not part of this free site. Contact us and we will set your team up with a dedicated instance that has it turned on.
Contact usWhere this comes in handy
Not every document starts life as a proper file. Sometimes it is a photo of a whiteboard from a meeting, a scanned copy of an old contract, or a screenshot of something someone sent you. None of that has any text an AI tool, or even a simple search box, can work with until someone reads it and types it out.
Reading text out of a photo takes a fair bit more computing work than reading text that is already typed into a document, so this capability runs on a metered recognition service behind the scenes. Because of that, it is offered as a premium feature on a dedicated instance rather than built into this free site. Contact us and we will get you set up.
Good candidates for this
- Scanned pages and printed documents
- Screenshots of emails, chat messages, or web pages
- Photos of whiteboards, signs, or printed forms
- Receipts and other printed text you would rather not retype
Common questions
Why isn't this available on the free site?
Reading text out of an image is a lot more computationally expensive than reading text that is already typed into a document, since it relies on a separate, metered recognition service. Rather than pass that cost on unpredictably or limit it in confusing ways, it is offered as a premium feature on a dedicated instance instead.
How do I get access to this?
Reach out through our contact page. We will set you up with a dedicated instance that has photo-to-text and scanned-PDF text recognition turned on.
Will this work on handwriting?
It is built for printed and typed text, and that is where it performs best. Handwriting recognition is far less reliable, so treat results on handwritten notes as a rough starting point rather than something to trust outright.
What image formats does it support?
PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF files all work.
